This week on the Daly Dose, we wish a happy Veteran’s Day to all of those that have served in our nation’s military, and we discuss why we need more veterans in our world today.

Monday on the Daly Dose, we are recapping the weekend in sports by taking a closer look at what we learned!
In the NBA, Dwight Howard is on the move yet again, and we now know why. There were a number of talented players that went undrafted in the NBA, where will they end up? Carmelo Anthony is going to remain in Oklahoma City for another season, and that could be working against LeBron James ending up in Los Angeles.
In the NFL, Jameis Winston could be in more trouble than we originally thought, and Brett Favre is taking a hard stand against youth football.
We also saw a major comeback in World Cup 2018, an important rule installed in college football, bats taking over in the NCAA World Series, and a surprising team playing well in Major League Baseball!

The Pac 12 is deep with talent, and there are two or three teams that are capable of contending for a national title. Yet, there is more to this group than just the top teams. The middle of the pack teams are brimming with talent too, and every week is a battle in this conference. Even a lower level team like Cal is dangerous, if you threaten the environment.
Predicted finish: 11-1
The biggest question for the Cardinal will be under center, as projected starting quarterback Keller Chryst is coming off of a significant injury. Yet, we shouldn’t underestimate this team, as they return a significant amount of talent on both sides of the ball. And does it really matter who plays quarterback for Stanford with their smash-mouth offensive front? I mean, they made Andrew Luck look good.
2. Washington Huskies
Predicted finish: 11-1
It was a memorable season in 2016 for the Huskies. They rolled through the season, winning 12 games, and making it to the College Football Playoff Semifinal. Sure, they lost 24-7 to Alabama, but this team proved they can play with the big boys, and they return 13 starters in 2017. The lone unit that could be undermanned is the secondary. Good thing the Pac 12 isn’t loaded with quarterbacks that might take advantage of it.
3. Washington State Cougars
Predicted finish: 9-3
Predictably, the Mike Leach-led Cougars will be exciting to watch with senior quarterback Luke Falk throwing the ball all over the field. If the defense line comes together, this could be a very dangerous team. And also just as predictably, the Mike Leach-led special teams will be awful, and cost this team a big game at the worst possible time.
4. Oregon Ducks
Predicted finish: 8-4
The Ducks will be one of the more interesting teams to watch in 2017. Coming off of a disappointing 4-8 season, and the firing of the coaching staff, new coach Willie Taggart will have his hands full. The Oregon defense will be a focal point, as they allowed over 40 points per game last year. They do return eight starters from that unit, but I’m not sure why I am saying that like it’s a good thing.
5. Oregon State Beavers
Predicted finish: 4-8
The Beavers finished 4-8 in 2016, and they look to be improving. Head coach Gary Anderson is working to build a physical rushing offense that can chew up clock, and wear down opponents. Don’t forget that the Beavers actually beat their in-state rival Oregon for the first time since 2007 last year. Sure it was Oregon’s worst season since the early 1980’s , but just stop dwelling on the negatives for once, will you?
6. California Golden Bears
Predicted finish: 3-9
Cal fans will point at their 2016 season and see the positives in Sonny Dyke’s final season, like the season-finale win over UCLA. Critics will point at the Bears history of mediocrity and laugh, and laugh.
1. USC Trojans
Predicted finish: 11-1
The Trojans could be a little bit of a mystery this season. Yes, they have Heisman candidate and NFL-bound quarterback Sam Darnold back. Yet, they lost a ton of talent around him, including the bulk of his offensive line. It isn’t all bad news though. It could be good experience for Darnold to get knocked around this year. It will prepare him for his future with the Jets or the Browns.
2. UCLA Bruins
Predicted finish: 11-1
UCLA was a huge disappointment last season, going just 4-8, as quarterback Josh Rosen suffered a shoulder injury and missed significant time. This team should bounce back, with a healthy Rosen in the lineup…that is, if he can get better protection, more consistency from his receivers, and if he can somehow endure the heinous challenge of quarterbacking UCLA while attending some college courses. We all have our crosses to bear.
3. Utah Utes
Predicted finish: 7-5
They may not be the sexiest program in the Pac 12, but the Utes have proven to be the most consistent. All head coach Kyle Whittingham does is keep winning the Pac 12 South. In fact, he has done it six out of the past seven seasons. He won’t do it this year, though. This team has too many holes to fill, and too tough of a schedule. So yeah, they’ll probably do it again.
4. Colorado Buffaloes
Predicted finish: 7-5
The Buffs had a storybook season in 2016, after winning just 10 games in head coach Mike MacIntyre’s previous three seasons, CU won 10 games, made it to the Alamo Bowl, and finished the season ranked in the Top 25. Sure, they got blown out in that Alamo Bowl game 38-8 by Oklahoma State. We never said it was a great storybook. Or even one with a happy ending. It was a story, and someone made a book out of it. Get off our back.
5. Arizona State Sun Devils
Predicted finish: 5-7
The Sun Devils will have some talent. This is a collection of top-ranked recruits. They will play fast, and aggressive. They will look to attack opponents on both sides of the ball. They will also be inexperienced, make silly mistakes, and have to overcome a number of injuries. Oh yeah, and more importantly, they will lose more games than they win.
6. Arizona Wildcats
Predicted finish: 5-7
We’re not saying that head coach Rich Rodriguez is trying to run this program into the ground on purpose. But let’s say he was. It would look pretty similar to what we are currently seeing, wouldn’t it?

Our focus now goes out west where we take a look at the Pac 12. This conference has it all: the tradition and strength of Southern California, the talent that has come out of UCLA, the modern day appeal of Oregon, and the lack of interest from literally everyone east of St Louis.
North
1. Stanford Cardinal
Predicted finish: 10-2
The Cardinal returns a significant amount of talent, including do-everything speedster Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey is the team’s top returning rusher, receiver, and special teamer. But they did lose veteran QB Kevin Hogan. So maybe they just just put McCaffrey under center too.
2. Oregon Ducks
Predicted finish: 9-3
The Ducks struggled early, getting off to a 3-3 start in 2015. But they caught fire by mid season and won six in a row to close the regular season. But their defense was ranked 116th last year under defensive coordinator Brady Hoke in his first season. And as we know from when Hoke started strong at Michigan, it just goes downhill from here.
3. Washington Huskies
Predicted finish: 9-3
With the talent that head coach Chris Petersen has assembled, the Huskies are darkhorse pick to win the Pac 12. Yet, we know that UW doesn’t always do that well with high expectations. So everyone kind of keep it to yourself, k?
4. Washington State Cougars
Predicted finish: 8-4
Say what you will about Cougars coach Mike Leach, he does win. And he has developed another Air Raid QB in Luke Falk, who threw for 38 touchdowns last year. Hard to believe but, Leach has now won at both Texas Tech and Washington State. Suck it, Craig James.
5. California Golden Bears
Predicted finish: 7-5
The Jared Goff Era is over in Berkeley, leaving head coach Sonny Dykes wondering who will step up and lead the Bears in 2016. But that’s still better than wondering where the sun rises each morning.
6. Oregon State Beavers
Predicted finish: 2-10
The Beavers finished 2-10 last year, and lost nine games in a row to finish the season. OSU will actually be a little better this year, but a Pac 12 schedule and match-ups with Minnesota and Boise State out of conference, will leave the Beavers struggling to even win twice again. So chew on that, you tree chomping maniacs.
South
1. UCLA Bruins
Predicted finish: 11-1
UCLA disappointed last year, going 8-5 despite having some NFL talent. But with sophomore phenom QB Josh Rosen back, anything is possible for the Bruins. And if the offensive line doesn’t come together, and protect the young QB better this season, any injury is possible for Rosen.
2. USC Trojans
Predicted finish: 9-3
Clay Helton will lead the Trojans in his first full year this season. There is no question that this team has talent. If Helton can find some steady quarterback play, and stay away from that pre-prep rally beer bong, USC should be fine.
3. Utah Utes
Predicted finish: 8-4
Utah lost some very skilled players, but head coach Kyle Whittingham has proven that he is more than capable of bringing in another batch of 25 year old men fresh off their missions, to dominate some 19 year old players.
4. Arizona Wildcats
Predicted finish: 7-5
Rich Rodriguez has an offense that is capable of putting up some big points. But he has a defense that is going to give up some big points. Yes, we know, stop us if you’ve heard this before.
5. Arizona State Sun Devils
Predicted finish: 6-4
ASU says they are they only FBS school in the country without a QB on their current roster who has thrown a pass at the D-I level. Looks the the tradition that gave us former greats like Andrew Walter, Rudy Carpenter, and Jeff Van Raaphorst will continue.
6. Colorado Buffaloes
Predicted finish: 3-9
Colorado has gone 2-25 in the Pac 12 so far under head coach Mike McIntyre. The bad news is that the Buffs will struggle to win two games in conference this season. The good news is that they probably won’t lose 25 games this season. Probably.

Oh sure, it isn’t the SEC but the Pac 12 might be the second best conference in college football and that’s pretty impressive. The Pac 12 has it all. Beautiful weather, beautiful coeds, and games that are played way past everyone’s bedtime. Ducks, Trojans, and Beavers…OH MY!

9-3 | Gone is Marcus Mariota, the Heisman winning quarterback, but that doesn’t mean the Ducks aren’t still the team to beat in conference. Under head coach Mark Helfrich Oregon has another chance to make it all the way to the big game again. And probably lose it. |
| Stanford Cardinal | 8-4 | Stanford ended last season as one of the hottest teams in the country. Quarterback Kevin Hogan and the Cardinal beat Cal, UCLA, and Maryland by a combined score of 114-38. Oh sure, after all of the pressure was gone… |
| California Golden Bears | 5-7 | After going 1-11 in their first season under head coach Sonny Dykes Cal surprised everyone last year by somehow managing to go 5-7 and being one of the most improved teams in the country. Good news for the Golden Bears! Since they liked last year so much they are going to go 5-7 again this year! Enjoy! |
| Washington Huskies | 5-7 | Head coach Chris Petersen left Boise State for Washington and led the Huskies to an 8-6 record and a bowl game in his first season. But now the real work begins for Petersen because UW lost a good amount of talent on both sides of the ball. Or maybe he could just dye the field at Husky Stadium purple and call it a day. |
| Washington State Cougars | 5-7 | Mike Leach led the Cougars to a bowl game in 2013 but WSU struggled in 2014, going 3-9. They still have too many holes to fill this season but Leach feels like they can compete in a very tough conference. And if you disagree with him, he just might lock you up in an equipment shed. |
| Oregon State Beavers | 4-8 | The Beavers lost long time head coach Mike Riley to Nebraska in the offseason but Gary Anderson comes over from Wisconsin and should keep them moving in a positive direction. Will they be one of the elite teams in college football? Of course not, but they will maintain one of the silliest mascots in all of collegiate sports. And that’s something. |
| South
UCLA Bruins |
10-2 | UCLA returns 17 starters from a team that went 10-3. Yes, they will have to replace QB Brett Hundley and LB Eric Kendricks, but if top ranked QB recruit Josh Rosen can adapt, the Bruins could contend for a title. It would also help if none of their coaches got blasted by a stray kettlebell. |
| USC Trojans | 9-3 | The Trojans might have the most talented top 22 players of anyone in the country. The issue for them is still their depth due to the scholarship restrictions that were placed on them in 2011. But that’s what happens when you get caught cheating. You pay for it. Well, unless your name is Tom Brady. |
| Arizona State Sun Devils | 8-4 | The Sun Devils return some talented players but their schedule is really tough. They will face Texas A&M, USC, UCLA, and Oregon all before Halloween. That’s a devil of a schedule! See what I did there? “Devil?” Sun Devils? Is this thing on? |
| Arizona Wildcats | 7-5 | In his first three seasons at Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez has already won 26 games which is a school record. Or maybe the people in Tucson just think it was a record because it was 124° degrees there and they were suffering from heatstroke. Either way. |
| Utah Utes | 6-4 | Utah just keeps getting better. The Utes went 9-4 in 2014 but lost some key players to graduation and the NFL. Head coach Kyle Whittingham has done a great job of getting this program to compete in the Pac12 one of the toughest conferences in the country. It is pretty amazing really. I mean if you had told us that a team from Utah could actually compete in the Pac we all would have said BYU, right? No? Just me? |
| Colorado Buffaloes | 5-7 | Colorado returns 15 starters from last season which has Buffs fans thinking they could be poised for some major improvement. But these were the same starters that went 2-10 last year and failed to win a single conference game. So good luck with all of that. |
