NFL teams relieved after Mixon assures them he “probably” won’t punch another female in the face

Teams from around the NFL have had been worried about University of Oklahoma draft prospect running back Joe Mixon. Following an incident in 2014, in which Mixon pled guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge for punching a woman and breaking bones in her face, Mixon was banned from attending the NFL Combine.

In his final season at Oklahoma, the redshirt sophomore rushed for 1,274 yards and scored 15 total touchdowns. Yet NFL clubs weren’t sure what to make of the talented runner, considering his checkered past.

However, after conducting a few interviews, reactions from NFL personnel has been largely positive.

“Going into the interview process, we were very skeptical about Mixon.” said one NFL scout, that wished to be left unnamed.

“There is usually a rule that when someone is a violent offender, they usually are also a repeat offender. Yet when we spoke to Joe, he really put our minds at ease. We asked him point blank: “Are you going to punch another woman in the face?” and he provided his answer without the least bit of a hesitation. “Probably not.” he said. That is the kind of straight shooting we were looking for.”

“We realize that drafting Mixon could be a little bit controversial.”said the unnamed scout. “But this isn’t a Ray Rice situation. This kid can actually play.”

The Daly Dose Sports College Football Top 10

Our first full weekend of college football kicks off tonight. Check out our Daly Dose Sports College Football Top 10 to see just who we think are the top teams in the country.

At least until they lose.

And then we will want nothing to do with them.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Next game: Sept 3rd vs USC (Arlington, TX)

Oh we know. Bama doesn’t have a quarterback, but since when has that stemmed the Tide? Nick Saban has found a way to reload year after year, and continue winning, without great play under center. Odd that the Prince of Darkness would waste his time coaching college football, instead of battling God, or angels, or Santa Claus or something. But to each their own.

2. Oklahoma Sooners

Next game: Sept 3rd vs Houston

If Oklahoma can get by Houston and Ohio State early then we could see “Big Game” Bob Stoops back in another big game at season’s end.  Of course, Big Game Bob doesn’t usually win those big games, but at least he has that cool nickname that isn’t the least bit ironic.

3. Florida State Seminoles

Next game: Sept 5th vs. Ole Miss (Orlando, FL)

The Noles have a talented group returning, including RB Dalvin Cook, but the schedule is nasty. Out of conference dates with Ole Miss and Florida, plus a solid ACC schedule, will mean that unlike the grades their players receive… Florida State will have to earn this.

4. LSU Tigers

Next game: Sept 3rd vs Wisconsin (Green Bay, WI)

One year after nearly getting fired, Les Miles returns with veteran talent and high expectations.  Can the “Mad Hatter” live up to those lofty goals? Does he even know about them? Does he even know where he is right now? Probably not.

5. Stanford Cardinal

Next game: Sept 2nd vs Kansas State

It will be the Pac 12’s mission to stop Christian McCaffrey. The do everything back returns after setting the NCAA record for yardage, but Stanford did lose some of their OL and QB Kevin Hogan. Can a white RB lead a top team to a national championship in 2016? And will the world actually come to an end if he does?

6. Michigan Wolverines

Next game: Sept 3rd vs Hawaii

Michigan returns as much talent as anyone in the Big 10, and Jim Harbaugh is at his best in his first three or four seasons. The defense could be excellent and while there are questions at QB, let’s not forget this guy went to the Super Bowl with Colin freaking Kaepernick. No really.

7. UCLA Bruins

Next game: Sept 3rd at Texas A&M

Sophomore QB Josh Rosen looks like he could be special. And while the Bruins have to replace some key players, he could be enough to carry them. Unless this offensive line can’t protect him. Because then they will be carrying him. Off the field.

8. Ohio State Buckeyes

Next game: Sept 3rd vs Bowling Green

The Buckeyes lost a ton of NFL talent, but they still have JT Barrett which gives hope to the people in Columbus.  But when you realize that Barrett couldn’t beat out Cardale Jones a year ago…that hope may start to fade.

9. Tennessee Volunteers

Next game: Sept 3rd vs Appalachian State

For the first time since Phillip Fulmer was run out of town, the Vols legitimately have a chance to challenge in the SEC, and have a shot in the national playoff picture. Sure, they’ll probably drop a game along the way that they shouldn’t, but it wouldn’t be Tennessee if they didn’t.

10. Clemson Tigers

Next game:

Yes, we realize that Clemson is in most everyone’s top five, but we don’t trust the Tigers defense, and truth be told, we aren’t sure that Barney Fife Dabo Swinney has another big season in him.
