Daly Dose 02-14-24 Our Super Bowl LVIII recap

This week on the Daly Dose, we offer you a very simple guide to having a happy Valentine’s Day!

Then, we are joined by our esteemed panel of NFL experts to break down the spectacle that was Super Bowl LVIII!

We break down the pregame, the game itself, the best performances, the halftime show and even the best commercials!

We discuss how the Kansas City Chiefs were able to come back and beat the San Francisco 49ers in a wild overtime finish.

Are the Kansas City Chiefs a true dynasty? Is Patrick Mahomes already the GOAT? And is the window already beginning to close for the San Francisco 49ers?

We also begin to look forward to next season! Who are the teams to watch and which teams could actually regress a little?

Daly Dose YouTube 01-31-24 What we learned from the NFL Conference Championship games

This week on the Daly Dose YouTube video, Super Bowl LVIII is set as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens, and the San Francisco 49ers rallied to get past the Detroit Lions. We take a look at what we learned from the NFL Conference Championship games.

Are the Denver Broncos actually (gasp) improving?

For the first time since 2015, the Denver Broncos beat the hated Kansas City Chiefs.

The Broncos broke a 16-game losing streak to the Chiefs, by beating them 24-9 on Sunday, in the frigid temperatures of Mile High Stadium.

It was Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ first loss to Denver after 12 straight wins. It was also his first road defeat in the AFC West after winning his first 16 divisional games away from Arrowhead Stadium.

So, was it just a fluke? The Chiefs had said going into the game that Mahomes was suffering from flu-like symptoms. Maybe this was just a case of Mahomes feeling under the weather, or it was simply bad luck due to the absence of NFL films crush: Taylor Swift.

Or maybe…the Denver Broncos are actually showing signs of…dare I say…improvement?

The Broncos started the season by looking mostly dysfunctional in their first two games against Las Vegas and Washington. They lost those two games by a total of three points.

That’s when the bottom dropped out. The Broncos allowed a franchise high 70 points to be scored by the Miami Dolphins in a trouncing that wasn’t as close as the 70-20 final score might indicate.

The season was over. The Russell Wilson experiment was a failure and head coach Sean Payton couldn’t fix the situation.

But since then, things just MIGHT be changing.

Denver scraped out a come from behind win against the Chicago Bears in Week 4.

They lost back-to-back games to the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs in Weeks 5 and 6, but they actually competed to the bitter end in both games.

They have now beaten the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs in back-to-back weeks.

Sure, this might just be a big tease for Broncos Country to start believing in this group only to have our hearts ripped out again, but there are some encouraging trends.

Since the 70-point blowout to the Dolphins, the Broncos defense is allowing just 20.8 points per game. They have sacked opposing quarterbacks 13 times in those five games, they have registered 36 quarterback hits and forced 10 turnovers.

The offense seems to be finding their footing too. After averaging just 74 yards per game on the ground in the first three games, the Denver offense is finding some success in their rushing game. In the past five games, they are averaging 130 yards per contest. That rushing game is helping keep the opposing pass rush at bay, and it seems to be giving the defense a much-needed rest.

Surely, we can just chalk this up to a lower level of competition, no?

Well, no.

The Broncos first three opponents against whom they went 0-3 have a combined record of 12-11 which is a winning percentage of 52.1%.

In their last five games, the Broncos have gone 3-2 against opponents with a combined record of 20-18, and a slightly better winning percentage of 52.6%.

Pardon Broncos fans if we are unfamiliar with actually improving as the season progresses. We haven’t seen much winning done in the latter months of the NFL season in a number of seasons. Since their Super Bowl winning season in 2015, the Broncos have gone 8-16 in November and 11-20 in December. Those late season results make it very difficult to ever make a playoff push.

This team still has a long way to go to even begin considering the postseason, but Sean Payton has been adjusting without panic, and he just might be putting together a team that is winning games later in the season. That would be a welcome change.

And either way…we finally beat the Chiefs.

Daly Dose 10-11-23 The biggest overreactions in CFB and the NFL

This week on the Daly Dose, the Major League Baseball Playoffs have already seen a few surprises, as some of the top teams have already been sent home for the winter.

We discuss the passing of NFL legend Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus, and the 2026 and 2030 FIFA World Cup tournaments are going to look very different.

Then, we are taking a look at some of the biggest overreactions in both College Football and the NFL! Is the SEC going to get left out of the CFB Playoff? Oklahoma looks to have an easy path to a playoff berth and USC QB Caleb Williams seems to have the inside track on another Heisman trophy, but could these things change?

Daly Dose 09-13-23 The NFL is back!

This week on the Daly Dose, we are back from a short trip to Las Vegas, and we discuss what a contradictory place that Sin City can be!

Then, we are taking a look at what we have learned already in the very young NFL and college football seasons! The New York Jets got some awful news, the Cincinnati Bengals started slow, and the Denver Broncos still have a number of problems to address going forward.

In College Football, the Texas Longhorns might be for real, Texas A&M is getting real tired of losing, and the Pac 12 is trying to go out on top! Plus is Mel Tucker getting done dirty at Michigan State?

Finally, with the Colorado Buffaloes surprising everyone with two big wins, we are also seeing two possible Heisman candidates emerge from their roster! Our Daly Dose Top 5 counts down the last five times that a college football team has had two candidates finish in the top three in Heisman voting!

Daly Dose YouTube 005-03-23 Our 2023 NFL Draft winners and losers

This week on the Daly Dose YouTube video, we are joined by some friends of the Dose to recap the 2023 NFL Draft!

We saw a number of surprises and a record number of trades take place this year, but who were the true winners and losers from this draft?

We begin by looking at some of the top stories from the offseason. The Baltimore Ravens signed QB Lamar Jackson to a record contract, the New York Jets made that monster deal for Aaron Rodgers, and the Washington Commanders finally got rid of owner Daniel Snyder!

Then, we discuss which teams were able to find true value, which player’s father made the most of an opportunity, and why every single team was somehow able to draft EXACTLY who they were hoping to get.

We also play a very challenging game of NFL QB trivia with our panel, and then we turn our attention to some of the biggest losers in the draft!

Which teams may have overreached? Which quarterbacks did not get any help from their franchises? And which of the silly draft cliches make the least sense? We answer all of these questions and much more this week on the Dose!

Daly Dose 02-22-23 Our questions for the coming NFL offseason

This week on the Daly Dose, it was the first full weekend without football, and it wasn’t easy, but at least the Daytona 500 ended with a bang, and NBA All Star Weekend was not all that much to watch.

The NFL hired a few more coaches, the NBA claims their officials are held accountable, but is the league headed for a lockout?

Plus Tiger Woods made a joke that had many in the sports media world clutching their pearls.

We take a look at some of the top winners and losers in the NBA after the trade deadline, and then we preview which College Basketball teams are on track to earn the No 1 seeds in the March Madness tournament.

We also have a few questions for the NFL offseason that are going to be highly impactful on the 2023 NFL season.

Finally, with all of the controversy surrounding the officials in Super Bowl LVII, our Daly Dose Top 5 counts down the Top 5 most controversial referee calls in Super Bowl history!
