Daly Dose #90 The Rio Olympics

This week on the Daly Dose Sports Podcast, Clint discusses some of the incredible performances that are taking place in the 2016 Summer Olympics and why we really shouldn’t be all that surprised by them. It isn’t all good news, as the Team USA Women’s soccer team got knocked out early and the Men’s USA basketball team has been struggling. Will they be able to put it together and win the Gold? We also discuss some of the weird stories that are coming out of Rio.

The NFL Preseason is finally here! Sure, the games aren’t that fun to watch, but we do get another season of HBO’s Hard Knocks…even though it is with the Los Angeles Rams. The San Diego Chargers are being dumb again, and the Houston Texans are hoping they didn’t get a lemon in free agency.

Plus some Major League Baseball talk and the Top 5 most decorated US Olympic athletes in history!

Daly Dose Sports Pro Football NFC North Preview

The NFC North, where they play football the way it was meant to be played. In the cold. In the elements. And sometimes in the 72 degree comfort of an indoor arena.

Green Bay Packers

12-4 Poor Aaron Rodgers lost his favorite WR Jordy Nelson to what looks like a season ending knee injury. Poor Super Bowl champion Aaron Rodgers. Poor good looking Aaron Rodgers. Poor perfect passing Aaron Rodgers. Poor dating Olivia Munn Aaron Rodgers. You quit your whining, Aaron Rodgers.
Detroit Lions 10-6 The Lions actually made the playoffs last season behind a tenacious defense and head coach Jim Caldwell reigning in the erratic play of QB Matt Stafford. Can Stafford take them to the playoffs in back to back seasons? Of course Stafford was sacked 45 times last season, and the Lions have no running game to speak of, so maybe I should be asking if Dan Orlovsky can take them to the playoffs in back to back seasons.
Minnesota Vikings 8-8 The Vikings have high hopes this year after a solid rookie season from QB Teddy Bridgewater and the return of RB Adrian Peterson. Then they acquired WR Mike Wallace which should give them a vertical threat in the passing game. Of course Wallace also gives them the threat of locker room chemistry blowing up like a landmine.
Chicago Bears 5-11 John Fox has gone from Tim Tebow to Peyton Manning and now he goes to Jay Cutler. First the good news: Cutler has a much stronger arm than Manning. And now the bad: literally every other single thing.

Daly Dose Sports Pro Football NFC East Preview

We move now to the NFC East.

Is Chip Kelly really smarter than everyone else? Can the Cowboys repeat their winning ways from last season? Can the Giants turn it around and save Tom Coughlin’s job? Can that team from Washington ? I think we know that the answer to all of these questions is “no”.

Philadelphia Eagles

11-5 First Chip Kelly takes former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray and then he deals QB Nick Foles to the Rams for Sam Bradford. Not bad. If Bradford can actually stay healthy he could be an improvement. Of course that’s like saying “if Philly fans can be polite” or “if Tim Tebow can complete a pass.”
Dallas Cowboys 10-6 The Dallas Cowboys finally got over the hump last year and made it to the Divisional round of the NFC playoffs. They made it by running the ball and taking some of the pressure off of QB Tony Romo to perform late in games. So what did they do in the offseason? They got rid of RB DeMarco Murray (1,845 yards) and replaced him with Darren McFadden (534 yards). Well of course they did.
New York Giants 9-7 The Giants suffered back to back losing seasons for the first time in the Tom Coughlin era as the Giants stumbled to a 6-10 record in 2014. To be fair they did have an insane number of injuries that they were forced to deal with. I was unsure exactly where to rank the Giants in this preview so I asked DE Jason Pierre-Paul to hold up fingers for where he thinks the Giants will finish in the NFC East. Okay Jason, three it is.
Washington Redskins 4-12 The Redskins announced that they would be starting Kirk Cousins in Week 1 after the Robert Griffin III fiasco but that RG3 “still has a future in Washington”.  I didn’t even know he was running for office.
