The 2017 Daly Dose NFL Preview: NFC North

NFC North

The black and blue division will once again be a physical battle for who comes out on top. Sure, this division isn’t as tough as it used to be, with the Monster of the Midway, and the Purple People Eaters, but they do still have Mike Glennon, and Sam Bradford throwing passes. That’s pretty tough to watch.

1. Green Bay Packers

Predicted finish: 10-6

The Packers have the greatest QB league in 33-year-old Aaron Rodgers, but they have struggled to surround him with much talent. In the offseason they signed tight ends Martellus Bennett, and Lance Kendricks, but unless they can play some defense, it could be another loss in the NFC Championship. At least in the offseason, the Pack was able to offload some dead weight, namely Eddie Lacy and Olivia Munn.

2. Minnesota Vikings

Predicted finish: 9-7

There was much concern in Minnesota last season when QB Teddy Bridgewater went down, and the Vikings were forced to go get Sam Bradford to replace him. Yet everyone seemed to be pleasantly surprised with Bradford’s play in 2016. The Vikings went 8-8, and their offense ranked 28th out of 32 teams. Which just goes to show you how little everyone really expected from Bradford. They thought that was actually good.

3. Detroit Lions

Predicted finish: 8-8

The Lions were a bit of a pleasant surprise last year, as they actually managed to make it to the postseason. A tougher schedule will make that outcome tougher to come by in 2017. Can the Lions finally break their streak of having not won a playoff game since 1991? Or of not winning a division title since 1993? In a word…”nope”.

4. Chicago Bears

Predicted finish: 5-11

First, the Bears spent $45 million dollars on free agent QB Mike Glennon. Then they moved up in the NFL Draft to grab QB Mitchell Trubisky. If one didn’t know better, you might get the impression that this franchise doesn’t seem to fully understand what it is that they are doing in the personnel department. Fortunately, we actually do know better.
