LeBron James to take on Michael Phelps in swim race on Mayweather vs. McGregor undercard

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Connor McGregor fight has taken some criticism for being a shameless money grab by many in the sports world. The formerly retired championship boxer Mayweather, will square off against the UFC lightweight champion Connor McGregor, on August 26th in Las Vegas.

Nevermind that McGregor has never fought a professional boxing match. Forget for a moment that Mayweather has only selected opponents that he knows are inferior. UFC president Dana White says that this will be a competitive fight, and he is in the process of booking an undercard that will be fitting.

It was announced on Monday, that Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James will take on former Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps in a 100 meter freestyle swimming sprint prior to the big fight.

White answered critics that said this is turning into more of a circus than a legitimate boxing match. “This is not a circus. We are trying to put together the top contenders that we can find. Floyd and Connor are the top two contenders.” White stated. “Granted, Floyd is retired, and Connor plays a different sport, but they are still a very intriguing matchup. And this race between Lebron and Michael is going to be top notch as well. LeBron James is one of the top athletes in the world today. Are you really going to bet against him? And Michael Phelps is old. He’s super old. He smokes dope. I’m telling you. This is going to be a really close race. Who knows? LeBron is going to beat him. And then he just might swim in the next Olympics, and never return to basketball. Never say never.”

Is there any truth to the rumor that that is fight is just being rushed to take place to upstage the Gennady Golovkin vs. Canleo Alvarez fight that is scheduled for September 16th, and being promoted by Golden Boy promotions?

“That is absolutely false.” White told the Daly Dose. “We didn’t even pay attention to that. We simply wanted to get the top stars into the ring, and the pool as soon as possible. We didn’t even know there was another fight. We are simply trying to put together a quality card. A legitimate card. A card featuring some of the top performers that we can find. By the way, do you have Usain Bolt’s number? We were thinking he might want to have a skating race against Sidney Crosby!”

Daly Dose #90 The Rio Olympics

This week on the Daly Dose Sports Podcast, Clint discusses some of the incredible performances that are taking place in the 2016 Summer Olympics and why we really shouldn’t be all that surprised by them. It isn’t all good news, as the Team USA Women’s soccer team got knocked out early and the Men’s USA basketball team has been struggling. Will they be able to put it together and win the Gold? We also discuss some of the weird stories that are coming out of Rio.

The NFL Preseason is finally here! Sure, the games aren’t that fun to watch, but we do get another season of HBO’s Hard Knocks…even though it is with the Los Angeles Rams. The San Diego Chargers are being dumb again, and the Houston Texans are hoping they didn’t get a lemon in free agency.
