Daly Dose 02-12-19 Winners and losers from the 2018 NFL season

Tuesday on the Dose, the Cleveland Browns sign RB Kareem Hunt, but that really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The Oakland A’s cannot be very happy with the announcement that Kyler Murray made on Monday. Plus, the Georgia Bulldogs do something that could mean big trouble for the rest of the country.

The, we take a look at the biggest winners and losers from the 2018 NFL season! Quarterbacks had huge seasons this year, so why did a number of them end up on our loser list? Plus, NFL referees were definitely losers, but it might not be for the reason that you might think!

Tuesday on the Dose, the New England Patriots are really getting desperate as they make a move for troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon. The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back quarterback Carson Wentz for Week 3, but are they making the move too soon?

Today, we also look at some of the winners and losers from the weekend in football.  In the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs offense is rolling, but it is not all good news. Blake Bortles bested Tom Brady, and one head coach hasn’t won a game in over 10 years.

In college football, two conferences took some damaging losses, and one perennial doormat is surprisingly hot!

The 2017 Daly Dose NFL Preview: The NFC East

NFC East

The NFC East has a rich history of teams that have won titles. The Dallas Cowboys have won five titles. The New York Giants have won four. The Washington Redskins have won three Super Bowls. The Philadelphia Eagles are also in the NFC East.

NFC-East

1. Dallas Cowboys

Predicted finish: 10-6

After multiple seasons of mediocrity, the Cowboys broke through with a 13-3 record, behind their rookie backfield tandem of QB Dak Prescott, and RB Ezekiel Elliott. The schedule is going to be significantly tougher in 2017, and the Cowboys lost some people on both sides of the ball, but they should still be in the thick of the division race.  Can Prescott avoid a sophomore slump? Can the defense prove that last season wasn’t a fluke? Can Elliott avoid getting arrested? Stay tuned!

2. New York Giants

Predicted finish: 9-7

The Giants are in desperation mode, trying to win one more title with quarterback Eli Manning. They have signed WR Brandon Marshall to pair with Odell Beckham Jr. Tight end Evan Engram was drafted out of Ole Miss with their top draft pick. The defense should remain a top-10 unit behind a nasty defensive line. Unfortunately the offensive line remains a weakness, and Eli Manning seems to be suffering from mid-life color blindness.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Predicted finish: 8-8

The Eagles are doing some very good things, as they are doing their best to surround their young quarterback Carson Wentz with some help. They signed WRs Alshon Jeffrey, and Torrey Smith, and looked to get tougher on defense. They probably can’t contend for a playoff spot, but they are getting better, and at least they didn’t screw things up. And for the Eagles, that’s pretty darn good.

4. Washington Redskins

Predicted finish: 7-9

Washington seems to have taken the title of most dysfunctional NFL franchise, as they fired their general manager abruptly, and failed to get QB Kirk Cousins signed to a long-term deal. They did sign WR Terrell Pryor away from the Browns, and upon witnessing how this team operates, he stated that he felt like he was right back in Cleveland.

The Daly Dose NFL NFC East Preview

We now move over to another division that has a history of winning. Some of the greatest teams and players in league history have played in this rough and tumble division.

The NFC East boasts 12 Super Bowl victories!

And also, the Philadelphia Eagles!

NFC East

1. New York Giants

Predicted finish: 9-7

Giants management decided that Tom Coughlin was the only problem on a team that has gone 6-10 the past two seasons and fired him after 12 seasons and two Super Bowl victories. And while the defense should be better, but Eli Manning has thrown 55 interceptions over the past three seasons. What I’m saying is maybe the Giants should have fired Manning and made Coughlin the starting QB. Is that so crazy? Yeah, well who asked you?

2. Washington Redskins

Predicted finish: 8-8

Washington somehow won the NFC East last year with a 9-7 record, and made the playoffs under QB Kirk Cousins, who set the franchise record for passing yards in 2015.  So you might think this team should be better this year, at least until you find out that Cousins is 0-26 as a starter in his career against winning teams. “You like that?!?!”

3. Dallas Cowboys

Predicted finish: 6-10

We aren’t sure how the Cowboys would have fared with Tony Romo at the helm considering the atrocious defense down in Dallas. But with Romo injured again, it will up to rookie Dak Prescott to try and outscore opponents. Last season the Cowboys tried to do that with Matt Cassel, Keller Moore, and Brandon Weeden and wound up going 1-11. So what is a rookie like Prescott going to do over that bunch? Well…probably about five games better.

4. Philadelphia Eagles

Predicted finish: 5-11

The Eagles may have helped themselves in the long term, but in the short term, they drafted QB Carson Wentz to watch and learn under veteran Sam Bradford. So if Wentz is a quick study, he should learn how to blow out his knee very shortly.
