Following Oklahoma’s victory over Ohio State on Saturday night, OU quarterback Baker Mayfield was overcome with emotion. The senior quarterback ran back out onto Ohio Field, after the Sooner’s 31-16 victory, and planted a Sooners flag at midfield of “the Shoe”.
On Monday, the quarterback apologized for his actions.
“I didn’t mean for it to be disrespectful to any Ohio State people at all, especially the team or the players, because they’re a great team and a great program,” Mayfield said. “It was an emotional game. I knew that it was going to have a lot of implications on the playoffs. … I got caught up in an emotional win. Yeah, it should’ve been something I did in the locker room. So I apologize for doing it in the middle of the field.”
As the reporters started to file out of the Oklahoma press room, Mayfield began to leave the podium, but then rushed back to the microphone, and yelled “Psyche! Ohio State can suck it! Boomer Sooner, son!”
