The 2017 Daly Dose NFL Preview: The NFC South

NFC South

It’s easy to look look at the NFC South, and think of it as a bad division. It contains three teams that have been infamously bad in NFL history. Yet, this division has produced that Super Bowl representatives in the past two seasons. So what if those Super Bowls were abysmal failures? Stop bringing up old stuff.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Predicted finish: 10-6

The Bucs went 9-7 last season, and could be better in 2017. They added wide receiver DeSean Jackson, drafted tight end OJ Howard, and tried to beef up their offensive line. The defense is improving, and if this team can make a few clutch field goals, they could contend for the playoffs. Oh wait…

2. Carolina Panthers

Predicted finish: 9-7

It has been an odd road since the Panthers appeared in Super Bowl 50. First, they went 6-10, and struggled to protect Cam Newton. Then they fired their general manager in an untimely fashion. Now Newton is coming off of a shoulder surgery, and Matt Kalil is protecting his blindside. What could go wrong? Besides everything.

3. Atlanta Falcons

Predicted finish: 9-7

There is a lot of talk about how the Falcons could suffer some extreme hangover, after giving up the biggest lead in Super Bowl history, and losing to the Patriots. Yet, when you look at the roster, this is a team that returns nearly everyone from a year ago. So this will be a mental challenge, more than a physical one.  Are you going to trust this team’s psyche? Me neither.

4. New Orleans Saints

Predicted finish: 8-8

Drew Brees is heading into the final year of his contract, as he signed a one-year extension last year. So expect big things from Brees, as he shows that he is still capable of playing at a very high level. In the offseason, New Orleans also went and signed running back Adrian Peterson. What can possibly stop the Saints from reaching the postseason now? Oh yeah…that awful defense again.
