Daly Doses: Thoughts, reflections, and derision from the Mile High City!

  • There are a lot of broken ankles in the Rocky Mountain region this week.
  • People that had given up on Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos were jumping off the bandwagon right and left.
  • “He’s too old.”
  • “He’s washed up.”
  • They should bench him for Brock Osweiler.”
  • Now the Broncos throttle the Green Bay Packers in prime time and there are people scrambling to get back on the wagon.
  • So if you see people limping around you will know why.
  • “We knew it all along!”
  • “We always believed in you, Peyton!”
  • “The Broncos are going to win the Super Bowl!”
  • Well someone was saying those things before the Packer game.
  • But not you, right?
  • Yeah, me neither.
  • The Broncos rolled up 500 yards of offense on a Packer team that looks like they could be the class of the NFC.
  • Of course, being the best team in the NFC doesnt quite have the same appeal as it used to.
  • These days it’s like saying you go out for drinks with Bill Cosby.
  • It sounded a lot cooler back in the 80’s.
  • The Super Bowl will go through the AFC again and it will probably go through either Foxborough or Denver.
  • And yes, the Broncos face the Patriots in Denver in Week 12, for what could basically be a playoff game for home field advantage in the playoffs.
  • You know who wasn’t overly impressed with the Broncos win over the Packers?
  • Apparently Bronco president John Elway.
  • Less than 24 hours after the big win over the Packers, Elway looked at the lack of production at the tight end position (23 total catches between Owen Daniels and Virgil Green) and decided to pull the trigger on a trade that could have some significant impact. The Broncos basically traded a sixth round draft pick in 2017 to San Francisco for Niners tight end Vernon Davis.
  • The 31 year old veteran has over 400 catches and 55 touchdowns in his 10 year career.
  • Could he be the security blanket that Peyton Manning so desperately needs within the Bronco offense?
  • If so that trade could prove to be a steal for Elway and the Broncos.
  • The 2015-2016 Denver Nuggets opened the season last week with a big win over the Houston Rockets!
  • Maybe my prediction about the Nuggets finishing fourth out of five in the Northwest Division this year was wrong? Maybe this young team is going to come together under new head coach Mike Malone and Emmanuel Mudiay, Kenneth Faried, and Danilo Gallinari are a good nucleus and are going to shock the basketball world by making the playoffs.
  • Of course then they came crashing back to earth by losing to the Timberwolves and the Thunder by an average of 21 points.
  • When it comes to this Nuggets franchise, man I’m tired of being right.
