The Buffalo Bills signed former New York Jets linebacker I.K. Enemkpali on Wednesday, just one day after he was released by the Jets for punching quarterback Geno Smith, breaking his jaw.
Bills coach Rex Ryan stated what we all were thinking when he addressed the media.
“We all know what happened and things like that,” Ryan said. “Obviously, it was a terrible thing that happened. But, like the Jets, our quarterback situation is precarious at best. And I like the idea of I.K. keeping our guys on their toes. Yes Matt Cassel, you can throw a stupid interception if you want to but this guy is going to bust you in the mouth when you get to the sideline. And EJ Manuel, I have no idea where your passes are going. You might want to reign those stupid throws in or you may end up drinking your meals through a straw for a month or two.”
The NFL is reviewing the incident that took place in the Jets locker room on Tuesday and Enemkpali could face a penalty under the league’s personal conduct policy.
Smith will have surgery and could miss from six to 10 weeks.
“If we didn’t think this young man or anybody else would be successful on the football field, in our locker room or in the community, he would not be here,” Ryan said. “We feel comfortable that he can help this team. Our defense is great. We have running backs, and we have wide receivers. But these quarterbacks just suck. We feel like this one player might improve that position for us without taking a single snap.”
