Football 2

Team Notable Picks Outlook and grade
Arizona Cardinals 1st round- DJ Humphries, OT, Florida

Other notable picks- Markus Golden, DE, Missouri

The Cardinals needed help up front and they got it with Humphries and Golden who both have the potential to be very good. But the Cardinals had better be careful. They are starting to resemble an actual functioning franchise.

Grade: A-

Atlanta Falcons 1st round- Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson

Other notable picks- Jalen Collins, CB, LSU

The Falcons didn’t take a WR with their first pick so the Cubs will probably win the World Series and the world will also most likely end.

Grade: A-

Baltimore Ravens 1st round- Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida

Other notable picks- Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota

The Ravens needed a WR after losing Torrey Smith and Breshad Perriman has all of the skills. Well…except for the catching.

Grade: B+

Buffalo Bills 1st round- NA- pick was traded last year for WR Sammy Watkins

Other notable picks- Karlos Williams, RB, Florida State

The Bills not picking in Round 1 is probably a good thing. We didn’t have to see them fail once again to pick a decent offensive player or hear Rex Ryan talk.

Grade: B-

Carolina Panthers 1st round- Shaq Thompson, LB, Washington

Other notable picks- Devin Funchess, WR, Michigan

Am I the only one to notice that Washington had all of this first round talent and still lost six games last season? What’s going on, Chris Petersen? Not so tough without your magic blue field, are you?

The Panthers traded up because Devin Funchess can really jump which is good because Cam Newton’s passes will consistently go over his head.

Grade: B+

Chicago Bears 1st round- Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

Other notable picks- Jeremy Langford, RB, Michigan State

Kevin White is really fast. Yet Jay Cutler will still somehow overthrow him.

Jeremy Langford is a versatile back that has no chance of helping the running game because Matt Forte couldn’t overcome Jay Cutler either.

Grade: C+

Cincinnati Bengals 1st round- Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M

Other notable picks- Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon

The Bengals really took some steps toward protecting quarterback Andy Dalton and keeping him on the field. Like that’s a good thing.

Grade: B+

Cleveland Browns 1st round- Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

1st round- Cameron Erving, C, Florida St

Other notable picks- Duke Johnson, RB, Miami

The Browns took two seemingly really good picks in the first round. Yeah, just like last year.

Grade: F

Dallas Cowboys 1st round- Bryon Jones, CB, Connecticut

Other notable picks- Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska

The Cowboys drafted Morris Claiborne in 2012 to be a top notch physical corner. That hasn’t worked out. But the Cowboys think Byron Jones is going to be a top notch physical corner. Just like Claiborne.

Dallas also took a chance and drafted Randy Gregory despite his off field troubles and Greg Hardy being suspended for 10 games for his off the field mess. Jerry Jones is a slow learner.

Grade: C+

Denver Broncos 1st round- Shane Ray, OLB/DE, Missouri

Other notable picks- Jeff Heuerman, TE, Ohio State

Ray was considered one of the top pass rushers in the draft but a citation for marijuana may have hurt his draft stock. However stock in local Denver marijuana went through the roof when Ray was drafted. So there’s that.

Grade: Stop hassling me with your standardized grades, man.

Detroit Lions 1st round- Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke

Other notable picks- Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska

The Lions drafted two offensive linemen and a running back because their running game is in shambles. Much like the city they play in.

Grade: C+

Green Bay Packers 1st round- Damarious Randall, FS, Arizona St

Other notable picks- Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA

Randall played free safety in college but will switch to burned cornerback in the NFL.

Many draft pundits thought Hundley might go earlier but the Packers stole him in the 5th round. So that may have been three rounds too early.

Grade: B-

Houston Texans 1st round- Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest

Other notable picks- Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State

With no QB the Texans realize that their only hope is that their defense will actually have to give up less than 0 points every game.

Grade: B+

Indianapolis Colts 1st round- Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami

Other notable picks- Josh Robinson, RB, Mississippi State

The Colts needed to improve their defense here but instead chose to get more weapons for Andrew Luck. Because it’s all about YOU, Andrew!

Grade: C-

Jacksonville Jaguars 1st round- Dante Fowler, OLB, Florida

Other notable picks- TJ Yeldon, RB, Alabama

Fowler might have been the best player in the draft. Of course the Jags just need 14 more players like that and they will be set.

Grade: A

Kansas City Chiefs 1st round- Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

Other notable picks- Chris Conley, WR, Georgia

Peters is very talented. Of course he couldn’t ever stay on the field because of disciplinary problems. But Andy Reid seems to like those types. And pie. Andy Reid also loves pie.

Grade: C-

Miami Dolphins 1st round- DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville

Other notable picks-Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma

I like the selection of Parker because now we can’t say Ryan Tannehill doesn’t have weapons. He now has weapons- the Dolphins are just a cursed franchise.

Grade: C+

Minnesota Vikings 1st round- Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan St

Other notable picks- Eric Kendricks, ILB, UCLA

Waynes and Kendricks may not have been the best players at their positions in the draft. But they can both step in and start on Day 1 for the Vikings. Which says a lot about the state of the Vikings defense when you think about it.

Grade: B+

New England Patriots 1st round- Malcom Brown, DT, Texas

Other notable picks-Geneo Grissom, DE, Oklahoma

Well look who dropped all the way to the last pick of the draft! Malcolm Brown who just might be the best defensive tackle in the draft and exactly the position that the Patriots need. Another wacky coincidence orchestrated by the NFL to appease the angry god Robert Kraft.

Grade: A+++++

New Orleans Saints 1st round- Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford

Other notable picks- Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State

Good thing the Saints went with some offense because we all know their defense is set.

Sean Payton didn’t even bother trying to replace Jimmy Graham because how hard is it to get another goalpost dunking chump?

Grade: D

New York Giants 1st round- Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami

Other notable picks- Landon Collins, S, Alabama

Flowers is a perfect pick for the Giants because he is as grumpy as Tom Coughlin but he was hardly the best player on the board. Somewhere Eli Manning is making a pouty face.

Grade: C

New York Jets 1st round- Leonard Williams, DT, USC

Other notable picks-Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State

The Jets have a bit of a log jam at DT with Shelden Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson but when you face Tom Brady with Geno Smith it really is your only hope.

Grade: B-

Oakland Raiders 1st round- Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

Other notable picks-Mario Edwards, DT, Florida State

Admit it you thought the Raiders would take a WR in the first round. But we thought it would be Phillip Dorsett- faster but not nearly as good. Maybe the Raiders really are finally turning it around. Yeah right.

Grade: A-

Philadelphia Eagles 1st round- Nelson Agholor, WR, USC

Other notable picks- Eric Rowe, CB, Utah

Agholor has great hands and that is really important considering that he will be catching passes from Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford, and Tim Tebow.

Grade: C+

Pittsburgh Steelers 1st round- Bud Dupree, OLB/DE, Kentucky

Other notable picks- Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn

I don’t know how the Steelers do it every year but Dupree was a steal this late in the draft. I mean…as long as James Harrison doesn’t beat him up and take his lunch money.

Grade: C+

San Diego Chargers 1st round- Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin

Other notable picks- Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami

The Chargers were sick of Ryan Mathews always being hurt and fumbling. So they drafted a 200 pound back that had 7 fumbles just last year. Plus, running backs from Wisconsin always work out.  Terrell Fletcher, Ron Dayne, Michael Bennett, Monte Ball…heyyy…wait a second…

Grade: C-

San Francisco 49ers 1st round- Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon

Other notable picks- Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina

Sometimes the draft pundits talk so highly of a player in the combine that we forget how bad he was during the season. Armstead is one of those times. The Niners clearly should have drafted a head coach instead. Or maybe a general manager.

Grade: D

Seattle Seahawks 1st round- NA, pick traded for Jimmy Graham

Other notable picks- Tyler Lockett, WR, Kansas State

Oh that tricky Pete Carroll traded away his draft pick for tight end Jimmy Graham. It was a no-brainer, really. Much like a certain goal line play in a certain Super Bowl not so long ago. Where was the trickery on that, Mr. Genius?

Grade: C+

St Louis Rams 1st round- Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

Other notable picks- Rob Havenstein, OT Wisconsin

Gurley is one of the best backs to come out in years when he’s healthy. Of course, that’s sort of like saying Geno Smith is one of the best QBs in the league…when he’s good.

Grade: B-

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1st round- Jameis Winston, QB, Florida St

Other notable picks- Donovan Smith, OT, Penn State

Jameis made sure to post a photo of himself eating crab legs on the night he was drafted so he has clearly matured. As long as the Bucs have Clemson and Boston College on the schedule I’m sure Winston will be fine.

Grade: C

Tennessee Titans 1st round- Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

Other notable picks- Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

With all of the domestic violence going on Roger Goodell murdered Mariota’s name at the podium. Can Mariota play in the NFL? Who cares. You can finally at least name one player on this completely irrelevant roster.

Grade: C+

Washington Redskins 1st round- Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa

Other notable picks- Preston Smith, OLB, Mississippi State

Scherfff certainly looks the part. But he isn’t as good as he looks. And he will probably step on RG3 and hurt him.

Grade: B
